The Central/Eastern/Northern Europe Operating Unit is the second-largest of ThyssenKrupp Elevator's six Operating Units. This regional unit handles the sale, installation and servicing of elevators, escalators and moving walks. The Operating Unit's headquarters - ThyssenKrupp Elevator (CENE) GmbH - is located in Essen in Germany's Ruhr area, from where it coordinates activities in Germany, France, the British Isles, Austria, Switzerland, the Benelux countries, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. In fiscal 2008/2009 the Operating Unit had just over 11,000 employees and generated sales of over €1.5 billion at around 180 locations.
